Day 23: Simple But Meaningful

Packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child is one of our favorite things to do this time of year. Operation Christmas Child is one of the reaching out program from Samaritan Purse in around the world.

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our family love doing it because it is a simple but meaningful way to share gifts and more important to share the love of God with the children all around the world. Since 2008, we packed a shoe box with a variety of gifts, like stuffed toys, books, balls, dolls, school supplies, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap bar, washcloth, expandable towel, jumprope, flashcards, crank-flashlight or regular flashlight plus extra batteries, and note card with picture of us. We gave our address so the child can write back to us. Last year, we got a surprise letter from a little girl with her picture and the box she got. It is priceless!

As a church, every year we have a Packing Party together at church. It is hosted by our Ladies For Mission. Last year, a group friends of mine came up with this wonderful idea: instead of buying hair bows and clips, we made them! I love my friends! We had so much fun of making hair bows and hair clips. We have a plan to do that again at our church on October 29th and November 5th. SO EXCITED!

Here are some of them that we made last time:

There are several ways you can get involve, individually, with family and even with your whole church. Here are some of them:

  • Pray for the collection day, for the kids who will recieve your box, and also for the volunteers.
  • Packing Party at your home or church
  • Build A Show Box Online is for you who are busy and don’t have enough time to pack. The organization will do that for you.
  • Follow Your Shoebox. This is fun and amazing because you will get a code where you can find out where your box will be.

Here’s how you can pack a shoebox… or go HERE for more detail and list of what you can pack in your shoebox:

This year National Collection is on November 18-15, 2013. You can find a location where you drop off the box HERE.

Let’s make a memory by giving a simple yet meaningful gifts to the children in all around the world!
