Cool Tuesday: Stretching Your Embossing Folder and Stamp

We had a wonderful long Memorial Day. My husband cook out tasty food for 3 days! He is the best cook ever 😀 We also went driving on our Jeep at State Park close to us and love the wonderful days we had.  Just love warmer days!!

Couple weeks ago, my husband got me an embossing machine (AWESOME husband!) and I have been playing a lot with it. I gathered all the courage I had to stretch the use of embossing folders I had with stamping. So… here’s what I did: stamped and embossed 3D paper flower.

I used them on 2 shaker cards I made for my friends:

I used this simple shaker card tutorial to make this cards. The sentiments I used are from The Happy Couple stamp set and Joyful Birthday stamp set. I stamped them with Black Pigment Ink Pad. First card, I stamped the anniversary sentiment on a piece of velum, added some glitter embossing powder, and heated it with my craft heater. The second card, I stamped the birthday sentiment on the base card, centered the position that would show in the frame. I got the metallic multicolor sequins and beads at Walmart only 🙂

I love those flowers on the cards, and I thought they would make my scrapbook layouts pretty, too… so I made more of them with different colors and pattern. And I took some pictures how to make them:

  1. First stamp the petals from Hello Bloom stamp set on a piece of White Daisy Cardstock. I used Sorbet, Juniper and Pear Exclusive Inks Stamp Pads.
  2. Run it through embossing machine. For these flowers, I used Chevron Embossing Folder and WRMK Evolution Advance machine.
  3. Then cut them and curl each petal gently using Quilling tool.
  4. Use Liquid Glass to put them together. You only need a small dot in the middle of each petal.
  5. Made a little bow with Baker’s Twine Neutral Metallic, Cashmere.
  6. Add it in the middle of the flower using Liquid Glass.
  7. Then add button (or gems) to finis the flower.

I made these flower pens using this tutorial, my first paper flower pen I made last month. To attach the tulip on the pen, I used glue gun this time. Then I put them all in a food can I wrapped with scrapbook paper.

DIY Paper Flower Magnet

DIY Paper Flower Magnet by Helen G. #diy #papercrafting #silhouettesilhouette #silhouettecameo

I am a happy owner of Silhouette Cameo 😀 Since the first day my husband got it for me 2 years ago, I found so many inspirations and tutorials from other paper crafters.

Today I want to share with you how to make this simple 3D flower magnet that I made for my friend. This 3D Flower from Lori Whitlock is easy to assemble.

Let’s get started 🙂

  • Cardstocks, any color you like for the flower (I used White Daisy and Gypsy cardstock)
  • Brads (I used The Paper Studio – Spare Parts)
  • Circle magnets
  • Craft glue, dries clear and strong (I used Turbo Tacky Glue and Martha Stewart ballpoint-tip glue pen)
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette Studio Designer Software

1. Open the 3D Flower cutting file on Silhouette Studio, you can get the Silhouette Studio software for free here. But I used Silhouette Studio Designer software that I bought couple years ago.

2. Resize the size of the file to 90% smaller using the Scale Window

3. Ungroup the shapes.

4. Delete the leaves (but you can use the leaves if you want to).

5. Duplicate the flower shapes and arrange them for cutting 2 flowers at the same time. Look at the picture how I arranged them:

6. I cut each White daisy and Gypsy cardstock into 6″ x 8″ and lay them side by side on the cutting mat.

7. Send it to Silhouette to cut by clicking the 6th Icon Button that has the “red A” symbol on the left upper tool bar. Adjust the cutting setting. I used Plain Cardstock setting.

8. Adjust the blade using at the machine to #4.

9. Cut. The machine will do the rest of the hard work 🙂

10. Peel the shapes of the cutting mat. Do it gently and very careful. I used Silhouette Spatula to pick up the fine edge.

11. Use the spatula to curl the flower petals gently.

12. Stack them using a dot of glue on each layer.

13. Add a brad on the middle of the flower.

14. Add the circle magnet using the strong dry-clear glue.

15. Let them dry over night to make sure the magnet sticked well.

And your flowers are done! Give it a try and if you have questions, just let me know 🙂
